Returning the Assignation, saying he is willing to sign it as long as the "go hand in hand in any purpose for sale of the property." Discussing the potential sale of works to Cadell, noting that he might give £10,000 (for what he once offered £4,000) and approving of the sale; describing three nearly complete novels. Mentioning the possibility of traveling to "the warmer climes of Europe for the re-establishment of my health," and supposing that the Trustees of his estate will allow him "reasonable travelling expenses." Remarking that the Trustees should not be surprised if he needs personal money every so often because his expenses include his youngest son and daughter and that he also must maintain the decent appearance of appearing as an attaché of the government.
